OPLAN SITA is a Philippine National Police (PNP) operation that was implemented as part of the government's efforts to address the issues of illegal drugs, criminal activities, and terrorism. The operation, which stands for "Sustain, Intensify, and Attain" is designed to enhance the PNP's capabilities in dealing with these threats and to ensure the safety and security of the people.

Checkpoints are conducted by the Philippine National Police to stop and deter criminal activity and guarantee public safety. According to the definition of the PNP, a checkpoint is a place where the military or police check vehicular or pedestrian traffic to enforce circulation control measures and other laws, orders, and regulations which involves only a brief detention of travelers during which the vehicle’s occupants are required to answer a brief question or two. [1] The PNP uses checkpoints to conduct inspections and searches of vehicles and people, identify potential threats, and prevent crimes like illegal drug trafficking, theft, and terrorism.

Checkpoints are a crucial component of the PNP's efforts to uphold peace and order because they give the police a chance to monitor and control the flow of people and vehicles in particular areas. Checkpoints also give the police a visible presence, which can inhibit criminal activity and give the population a sense of security. In addition, checkpoints are also used by the PNP to monitor compliance with traffic laws and regulations, such as seat belt usage, the use of helmets by motorcycle riders, and the proper licensing and registration of vehicles. Random checkpoints are set up to achieve surprise, as opposed to known permanently located checkpoints, which suspects could circumvent.[2]

As a Cadet, it was an eye-opening experience to observe the different kinds of vehicles and drivers passing through the checkpoint, and I was able to develop my skills in communication and public interaction. The first thing that struck me during the checkpoint operations was the attention to detail and thoroughness of the police officers. They meticulously checked each vehicle, and they did not take any shortcuts or overlook any potential threats. I realized that this level of meticulousness was necessary to maintain public safety. These checkpoints play a critical role in ensuring public safety, preventing criminal activity, gathering intelligence, building positive relationships with the community, and developing important skills and qualities in Cadets. By taking this responsibility seriously and conducting checkpoints professionally and respectfully, we can help to build a safer and more secure Philippines for all citizens.

In conclusion, my experience as a cadet conducting PNP checkpoints was a valuable one. It allowed me to gain insight into the workings of the PNP and develop my skills as a future law enforcement officer. It reinforced my belief that meticulousness, professionalism, and impartiality are essential qualities that a law enforcement officer must possess to maintain public safety and uphold the law.
