As stated in the 11 leadership principle number 5: Set an example.[1] A good upperclassman should serve as a role model for underclassmen to follow. This includes demonstrating a strong work ethic, commitment to the institution's values and traditions, and a positive attitude toward training and discipline. A good upperclassman should also prioritize the welfare and development of their juniors by providing guidance, advice, and mentorship. This means making time to interact with underclassmen, actively listening to their concerns, and providing constructive feedback to help them improve.
As an upperclassman, I have the responsibility to guide and mentor my` underclassmen. an upperclassman should be patient with them and be willing to listen to their concerns and offer guidance where necessary. it is also our responsibility to provide them with the necessary resources, such as study materials, to help them succeed in their academic and training pursuits.
As a brother, I offer emotional support and always be there for my underclassmen whenever they need me. This means listening to them without judgment and offering practical solutions to their problems. I am willing to put their needs before ours and sacrifice my time and energy to help them when necessary. In my years of experience as an upperclassman, I communicate effectively with fellow cadets especially my underclassmen because I treat them as my siblings. I am clear and concise with my instructions, and always be willing to listen to feedback and suggestions from them. By doing so, I build strong relationships with those around me and create a positive and supportive environment.
Anti-hazing policies and practices are closely related to the idea that a good upperclassman should serve as a role model for younger cadets to follow. Hazing is a form of initiation or induction that involves physical, emotional, or psychological harm to new members. This kind of practice undermines the values and traditions of the institution and creates an environment that is contrary to the goal of building a disciplined and capable law enforcement force.
In the context of the PNPA, a good upperclassman plays a critical role in maintaining PNPA as a hazing-free zone and promoting a culture of respect, discipline, and professionalism. They serve as an example to their underclassmen, demonstrating the values and principles that the institution seeks to instill in its cadets. By modeling the right behavior and attitudes, they can help create a positive environment that fosters the development of cadets and cultivates the attributes of a good law enforcement officer.
To conclude, anti-hazing policies and practices are crucial in promoting the values and traditions of the PNPA, and a good upperclassman has a critical role in upholding these principles. By serving as role models for the underclassmen to follow and by promoting a culture of respect, discipline, and professionalism, good upperclassmen can help in maintaining PNPA as a hazing-free zone and create a positive environment that fosters the development of the cadets.
