Legacy of Heroes: Inspiration for Future Generations

IN PHOTOS: On Wednesday, January 25, the Bulacan Police Provincial Office together with Cadets from MASIDTALAK Class of 2023 staged a ceremony at Camp General Alejo Santos in the City of Malolos, Bulacan, to honor the 44 Special Action Force (SAF) personnel who lost their lives. The wreath-laying ceremony for our heroes was presided over by Bulacan Provincial Director, PCOL RELLY BAGASIN ARNEDO.

On Jan 25, 2015, the SAF 44 died during an anti-terrorism operation known as ‘Oplan Exodus’ in Mamasapano, Maguindanao, which led to the neutralization of Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli Abdhir alias Marwan.[1] In February 2017, President Rodrigo Duterte declared January 25 of every year as the National Day of Remembrance for the SAF 44 [2] The commemoration of the bravery of the Special Action Force (SAF) 44 is a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by our brave men and women in uniform.


The bravery of the Gallant SAF 44 serves as an inspiration to many in the Philippines, and they are remembered as heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their country. Their sacrifice highlights the courage and dedication of the Philippine National Police in their fight against terrorism and in ensuring the safety and security of the Filipino people. Despite being heavily outnumbered and outgunned, the SAF 44 remained steadfast in their mission to neutralize two high-value terrorist targets. They displayed exceptional courage and determination in the face of overwhelming odds, and their actions helped prevent further attacks on innocent civilians.

As I reflect on this event, I am filled with both sadness and admiration. Sadness for the loss of lives, dreams, and hopes of these brave soldiers especially our upperclassmen who selflessly served and protected our country. And admiration for their courage, bravery, and dedication to their sworn duty. The SAF 44 operation was a testament to the bravery and commitment of our troops in protecting our country from internal and external threats. They knew the risks they were taking, but they still carried on with the mission to ensure the safety and security of the Filipino people.


Moreover, the commemoration of Gallant SAF 44 also reminds us of the need to provide better support and care for the families left behind. These brave soldiers were not only dedicated to their duty but also to their families who are now left to cope with their loss. The government must ensure that their families are given the necessary support and assistance to help them through this difficult time.


The commemoration of the bravery of Gallant SAF 44 is a reminder of the sacrifices made by our soldiers in protecting our country. We must honor their memory by ensuring that their sacrifices were not in vain. We must work towards creating a better and safer environment for our law enforcement agencies and their families. Let us never forget the bravery and selflessness of our SAF 44 and honor them by living up to the ideals and values they fought and died for.
