The First Republic of the Philippines was formally established on January 23, 1899, in Malolos, Bulacan. The Malolos Constitution was officially promulgated and the First Philippine Republic was proclaimed and inaugurated at the Barasoain Church in Malolos. On the same day, Emilio Aguinaldo took his oath of office as President.[1] The Philippine Revolution, which started with the Katipunan and resulted in the First Constitution and Republican Government of Asia, came to an end with the Malolos Republic.

The First Republic was marked by the establishment of constitutional democracy, with the ratification of the Malolos Constitution in 1899.
